1. The Velveteen Rabbit

The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams

The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams and Sarah Massini

The Velveteen Rabbit is an absolute classic that tells the beautiful story of a stuffed rabbit who longs to become real through the love of a child. There are many versions of The Velveteen Rabbit published, it's such classic. This version illustrated by Sarah Massini is our favourite.

When the Boy chooses the Velveteen Rabbit as his favourite toy, the rabbit begins to experience the joys and sorrows of being truly loved. Through conversations with the wise old Skin Horse, he learns that becoming "real" isn't about how you’re made, but about being loved deeply and truly. As time passes and the Boy falls ill, the rabbit’s devotion never wavers, leading to a magical transformation.

Sarah Massini's illustrated version of the book is lovely to read along whilst listening to the Yoto audiobook version. This is one of our favourite ways to read the book at bedtime.

We also highly recommend the Apple TV film, it's absolutely beautiful.

The story captures Peter’s narrow escape and his eventual return home—tired, but wiser.

Beatrix Potter's illustrations are utterly charming, and so are her words. The Yoto audiobook version is a gorgeous way of enjoying Peter Rabbit.
