donating milk is my superpower

In amongst all of the other excitement this week, yesterday I received a special certificate in the post. A certificate of thanks for donating hundreds of bottles of breastmilk to the milk bank over the past nine months, for premature and sick babies. Having had a 30 weeker I know just how tough the journey through special care can be for these tiny poorly babies. You want to do anything you can to help them through their journey. And so I did.

Martha is my third baby, my third round of exclusively expressing, my third time of being blessed with a fantastic milk supply, and my third chance to donate breastmilk. Over the three years I've expressed for I think I've donated around 275 litres of milk. I truly hate expressing (only three months to go!) and I would love to directly breastfeed but it wasn't to be. And so I express. And I donate. I consider donating breastmilk to be my superpower!

So as silly as it seems I'm pretty proud of that little certificate. And I'm even more proud that because of it our three little ones know that there are all kinds of different ways of feeding babies, from bottles to breast to expressing, to babies who are tube fed milk donated by other mums. And that all of those options are perfectly brilliant

P.S. If you're considering donating and would like to chat please feel free to get in touch if I can help!
